ThinkREG Event Registration
Changes October 10, 2026

This release is mostly about onsite check-in. The check-in scanner can now read the name printed on a badge, not just its QR code, so a badge with a damaged or missing code still checks in from a phone in a couple of seconds. QR scanning itself is faster and more reliable on iPhones. Behind the scenes we have also tightened how accounts are kept apart and how two-factor codes work, and fixed a run of problems in fees, emails, imports and shipping.

  • Onsite check-in scanner
    • New (beta): Badge text mode. On the Checkin Scanner page, switch from QR code to Badge text, hold the badge inside the guide box and tap Read badge. The phone reads the printed name and company and asks “Check in Jane Smith, Acme?”. If two people match equally it lists them so you can pick. The reading happens on the phone itself; nothing is sent anywhere except the check-in
    • The guide box takes the shape of the name and company area of your event’s badge, so the camera isn’t distracted by the badge artwork
    • Badge text check-ins never print a badge, since the attendee is already holding one
    • Reading the badge of someone who is already checked in no longer changes their original check-in time. A pop-up shows when they first checked in (it may be an earlier day) and offers an Un-check in button if you do want to record them again now
    • The check-in prompt shows the registrant’s registration form, and so does each choice when there is more than one match
    • If a station’s onsite profile is limited to certain forms and someone from another form is scanned, staff are asked “Check in anyway?” and then “Are you sure?” rather than being refused outright, since staff can check anyone in from the registrant record anyway
    • A Light button beside Start camera turns on the phone’s torch for dim halls. It only appears on phones that support it
    • There is one “Checkin Scanner” item in the onsite menu; the QR code / Badge text switch lives in the Station card on the page
    • The ThinkReg logo at the top of the onsite and mobile menus is smaller and is no longer a link, so a stray tap mid check-in can’t take you off the page
    • Fixed: QR scanning on iPhones and in Firefox had been quietly using a slower backup reader. The faster reader now loads on every QR page (check-in, session self check-in, lead scanning and inventory)
    • Fixed: small badge QR codes held at arm’s length often weren’t read. The scanners now look at the camera image in more detail
    • Fixed: tapping Start camera twice, or a camera that stalled while starting, could leave the camera running with no way to stop it. The button now always stops it
    • Fixed: with the USB scanner, a badge that matched nobody at a form-limited station showed an error instead of “Registrant Not Found”
    • Fixed: after the admission change in the last release, every session had become single-entry, so attendees returning from a break were turned away at the door. Re-entry is unlimited again unless you set a Max Tickets Per Registrant limit
    • Fixed: when a session scanner re-sent a scan it had already recorded, the reply came back without the attendee’s name and company
  • Attendee app & sponsors
    • Peer to Peer Leads has three choices: Off, On for all attendee types, or On for the attendee types you tick (one checkbox per registration form)
    • When Show Sessions is off, the Agenda link no longer appears in the menu either
    • Fixed: agenda cards could be wider than an iPhone screen, which cut the Add / Remove button off the right-hand edge
    • Fixed: sponsor staff’s My Downloads page in the Attendee App showed attendees’ names and contact details even when they hadn’t chosen to share them. It now follows the same opt-in rule as the self-edit sponsor report
    • Fixed: adding the first staff member to a sponsor company produced a row with empty Sessions and Can see lists until the page was reloaded
  • Registration & sessions
    • Fixed: form handlers such as the Confirmation Email Trigger weren’t running when someone registered or saved their self-edit details, so those emails didn’t go out. They now run on every save: public registration, self-edit, admin and onsite
    • Fixed: paying by credit card on the new registration flow failed with an error
    • The session picker has two more settings on Edit Page Component: a switch to turn off the Date filter (every session shows, past ones included), and your own word for “sessions”, so registrants see “Current and upcoming Workshops” or “Just my Classes”
    • On the Session Review page each session shows its day next to its time (“Monday, Sep 21 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM”), so you don’t have to scroll back up to the day heading
    • Fixed: opening a session’s detail page failed with an error
    • Fixed: editing an Advanced Multiple Choice component failed with an error
    • Fixed: opening an option from a component you were editing on a form page took you to the event-level editor, and saving dropped you there instead of back on the form
  • Fees & emails
    • Fixed: deleting a fee failed with an error. A fee that registrants already carry can’t be removed without damaging their records, so the page now shows who has it and disables it instead, and says so
    • Fixed: a small number of email addresses had stopped receiving any mail from the system because of a duplicate entry in the do-not-mail list. The same kind of duplicate in the list of verified From addresses is handled too
  • Imports
    • Fixed: re-importing an Excel file whose ID column holds numbers added a fresh copy of every registrant instead of matching the existing ones. Re-imports now match. With “Update Duplicate Records” ticked, registrants that had already been duplicated this way are merged back into one record (the enabled, checked-in or oldest one is kept), and each merge is listed in the import results
  • Reports & dashboards
    • Saved reports have an Edit link beside Run and Delete, which takes you straight back into the report builder
    • Custom badge reports have X Offset and Y Offset fields (in inches), so one report can be lined up for a particular printer or label stock without changing the badge template everyone else uses
    • Badge fonts can be downloaded again: one at a time, or all of them as a zip
    • Fixed: the Roster tab of the multiple choice, promo code, guest, lead retrieval and approval question reports was always empty. On the Questions tab, each report now opens directly under its question rather than at the bottom of the list
    • The mobile dashboards load their counts in one go, so they fill in noticeably faster, especially on a busy event
    • Fixed: the mobile dashboard sign-in stopped after the 4th digit of what is now a 6-digit code, so every code failed
    • The “Upcoming Onsites” tab is now called “Event Calendar”, which is what it shows
  • Inventory & shipping
    • Each item on the Equipment list has two small PDF icons for printing a single label (Brother 1.1×3.5 or 1.1×2.5) without going through the reprint batch
    • Equipment models have a new “Decommissioned” usability for a retired model that still has equipment attached, and the Models and Equipment Pricing lists have on/off toggles for each usability level
    • Carnets have Active / Returned toggles over the list, Active showing by default
    • Scan Out Equipment works with the phone camera: each scan is added in place without leaving the page
    • When a manifest has a carnet, Scan Out Equipment shows whether each item is on it, and warns when you scan one that isn’t
    • Fixed: the Shipping Manifests list showed nothing at all, not even the Add a New Manifest link
    • Fixed: a manifest saved without a carnet stopped the manifest list from loading, and a brand-new empty manifest failed to open for scan out
    • Only users with invoice edit rights can create, change or delete a manifest or scan equipment on and off one. Read-only users could previously do so by typing the address
  • Sign-in & security
    • Two-factor codes expire after 10 minutes, allow three tries, and can only be used once and only by the account they were sent to. Each account can request up to 5 codes an hour
    • For a shared check-in login going onto many stations at once, we can lift that hourly limit on the account until a date and time you choose (the end of the event, say), after which it comes back by itself — contact us
    • Fixed: on a slow phone, tapping Continue just after the code submitted itself could use the code up twice and report it as invalid
